Workshop 1 - Influencing Without Formal Authority

Professor Richard Jolly
Kellogg School of Management

During this 3-hour interactive workshop, Professor Richard Jolly of Kellogg School of Management (and London Business School for 22 years) will be exploring the ways to maximize your impact with the people you are trying to influence. We now have a good understanding of what distinguishes those people who are able to get their ideas implemented and those who are not. There are some consistent rules that apply across different situations – so what are the rules and how can you ensure you play the game skilfully, yet with integrity?

Themes that we will address during the workshop include:

  • What are the characteristics of a ‘trusted advisor’?

  • The typical personality profile of professionals and how to interact with them effectively

  • The world isn’t just – who gets to be powerful in organizations?

  • Where power comes from and how you can develop your sources of power

  • The four political skills that will enable you to be influential in the boardroom

  • The six behaviors of effective influencers

  • What is your personal development plan to ensure you build your influencing skills?

Over the past decade, the sophistication and complexity of legal pricing, service delivery, and invoicing has risen sharply. This confluence of factors makes it more important than ever for firms to have a seamless process from quote to cash, yet many firms continue to employ disconnected processes and struggle with producing invoices that are accurate, convey value, and comply with client guidelines.

During this interactive pre-con session, attendees will learn from industry experts about how to address key challenges and create a more connected model that reduces errors, improves profitability, and improves client satisfaction. Our faculty includes experts with experience covering all aspects of the legal ecosystem, including law firms, in-house legal operation teams, eBilling technology providers, and consulting.

The session will include several facilitated breakouts during which attendees will have the opportunity to work through their own specific challenges and formulate potential solutions and action plans. Specifics topics that will be covered include: (i) building an optimal team; (ii) improving core quote-to-cash processes and internal communication; (iii) outside counsel guideline review and management; (iv) rate and special billing arrangement management; and (v) driving improvements through better law firm and client collaboration.

This session is designed for anyone involved in the quote-to-cash lifecycle, including pricing professionals, billing professionals, legal project management professionals, and corporate legal operations professionals.

We can't wait to see you in Chicago for LVNx 2022!
