MISSION

The Legal Value Network’s mission is to accelerate evolution in the legal industry.  LVN connects business of law professionals from law firms, corporate legal departments, alternative legal services companies, and technology providers who are focused on designing, building and implementing the foundations of a more contemporary and commercially-sound model of legal service delivery.

LVN leverages and enhances the collective knowledge and skills of its members by:

  • Providing a forum for thought leaders and members to share and facilitate the development of industry best practices;

  • Furthering the professional development and expertise of its members through collaborative projects, educational opportunities and mentoring; and

  • Encouraging and promoting business and professional opportunities for its members.

HISTORY

Legal Value Network was born of the growing momentum of change in the business management and operational disciplines in the legal services industry. New careers and evolution of existing roles focused on business strategy and analytics sprung up in the wake of the Great Recession, and have progressively claimed an increasing share of influence in the transformation of commercial legal services from a practice to a sophisticated professional services enterprise. These functions are no longer pet projects presided over by a few pioneers in different corners of the industry—they have matured into formal, impactful forces that boast numbers of a true community of specialist professionals.

The founders of the Legal Value Network all emerged from this evolutionary process, and had an early stake in helping direct the trajectory of the industry. These eight individuals connected at various early roundtables and other meetings, ultimately joining forces to help produce the content you've grown to know and appreciate since 2012 when industry veteran Toby Brown formed the foundation of an earlier leading industry conference on pricing, project management and process management. This original conference attracted over 120 professionals from across the globe, and started a movement that grew to include a vibrant, cross-functional gathering of over 450 professionals assembling for the annual 2-day conference.

Recognizing that the original conference had validated the demand for a more robust and consistent stream of thought leadership content and collaboration opportunities for professionals of all seniority levels, what began as the original conference grew into the Legal Value Network. Fueled by the guidance, experience and perspectives of the founders comprising several generations of conference co-chairs and planning committee members, the Legal Value Network seeks to contribute to the establishment of industry best practices and tangible deliverables that will accelerate the professional development of business of law professionals at law firms and in-house legal departments, and build the community that also includes other legal and technology providers.
