On January 28, 2021, Coca-Cola’s general counsel Bradley Gayton published an open letter to outside counsel, stating, “Quite simply, we are no longer interested in discussing motivations, programs, or excuses for little to no progress – it’s the results that we are demanding and will measure going forward.” While D&I efforts have been increasingly on the minds of law firms over the last year, this powerful letter sent a loud and clear message to law firms: it’s not enough to want to do better.
